Bennetts Karate Dojo - Erie Community Center
Instructor Heather Bennett featured in the Okinawan newspaper after participating in the Guinness Book of World Records event in Okinawa, Japan during Karate Day in 2015
Heather Bennett is a 4th degree black belt in Uechi Ryu Karate and a 3rd degree black belt in Matayoshi Kobudo. She teaches the youth/adult karate classes Mondays and Wednesdays, and has been training martial arts for over 12 years.
Richard Bennett is a 6th degree black belt in Uechi Ryu Karate and a 5th degree black belt in Matayoshi Kobudo (ancient weaponry). Richard runs the kids karate program at the Erie Community Center, and has been running karate classes for the Erie Rec Dept. since 2007.
Both Instructors Richard and Heather train in Okinawa, Japan extensively and are international martial arts competitors.
Kids Karate Classes
4 - 6 years old
In this class participants concentrate on karate basics through fun drills that develop coordination, discipline, and exercise the body.
Students will also learn to count from 1-10 in Japanese as well as learn basic Japanese phrases used in the dojo.
This program has its own ranking system and its purpose is to prepare younger students for the youth karate class.

Youth and Adult Karate Classes
7 yrs old and above
This is a structured class promoting self defense, coordination, balance, and self control for all ages and skill levels.
Classes will focus on form, kicking and punching correctly, prearranged fighting drills, and technical application.
Both entry level and advanced drills and exercises will be used to challenge and engage students of all ability levels

Additional payments for testing, memberships, and uniform costs may apply. We encourage families to sign up together and make your karate class a family event.
Youth and Adult Karate Classes:
Mondays/Wednesdays
Beginners karate classes 5:15 - 6:00 pm
Intermediate/Advanced karate classes 6:00 - 7:15 pm
Kids Karate Classes 4 - 6 yrs old
Saturdays 9:30 - 10:00 am
