Matayoshi Kobudo Shinbukai Kata

Kata videos are meant to help students practice on their own and used as a reference, not to replace a kobudo instructor.  All videos represent Matayoshi Kobudo Shinbukai, based in Naha - Okinawa, Japan.  Richard Bennett is an instructor for the Shinbukai, and a registered dojo of the Matayoshi Kobudo Shinbukai in Okinawa.

Shushi no Kun

Bo Kata:  There are 5 bo kata in Matayoshi Kobudo, each one required for black belt advancement level up to 5th dan.

Shushi no Kun - Shodan (1st degree black belt)

Sai Kata: There are 3 sai kata in Matayoshi Kobudo, each one required for black belt advancement up to 4th degree black belt.  Sai kata can also be performed with both standard sai and manji sai.

Tonkua Kata: There are 2 tonkua kata in Matayoshi Kobudo Shinbukai which were also taught at the Kodokan.  Each one is required for black belt advancement up to 2nd degree black belt.  There are alternate forms that were created by students of Matayoshi Shinpo.
